Toyota TS050 Hybrid - Le Mans 2017

It takes a great car to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but it takes a legendary car to put in a 3m14s qualifying lap. And that’s just what the Toyota Gazoo Racing squad did in 2017 when Kamui Kobayashi took over the #7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid, pictured above, during Thursday evening’s first qualifying run. The record set by the Japanese driver was almost two seconds quicker than the previous one set in 2015, and secured the team’s pole position. The 85th edition of the historic endurance event was a controversial one, however, with Toyota having to retire two of its three prototypes after clutch problems and a collision concluded their race.
